The number does not travel

0.0415% does not mean anything to almost everyone. It is not a code, and it is not a secret held by a few people who all understand the same thing. If it means something to you, that meaning is yours. It may not be what it means to the person who runs this blog. Nothing on this site will line those meanings up, or say which one is intended.

What these posts are willing to talk about is older than the title. Two people can share an hour so completely that the hour stops belonging to either of them alone. Years can pass. Neither person may think of it. The jobs change, the cities change, the daily mind fills with other weather. The hour does not require their attention in order to remain. It stays between them, intact, the way a room stays furnished when the door has been shut.

A shared experience does not fade because it went unmentioned. It can last for years in the silence of the people who had it.

That is the strange mercy of something truly shared. It does not live only in memory, where it would depend on being recalled. It lives in the fact that it happened to more than one person. One of them can forget the date, the street, even the feeling, and the other can have done the same, and still the thing is not gone. It is waiting in the overlap. When one of them finally turns toward it again, it is often still whole, as if no time had been spent away.
